The 18 HPX-V is Maverick's larger technical poling skiff for bigger water, greater range, and multi-angler versatility without sacrificing draft. Maverick describes it as stable yet responsive on the pole with the range and speed of larger engine packages.

The Maverick 18 HPX feels like one of the better fits for what you’re looking for when you stack it up against skiffs like a Hells Bay, Chittum, or Floyd. It may not be quite as skinny as a Floyd, but it is probably closer to a BT Vengeance in terms of shallow-water ability. Even then, it still runs impressively shallow for a skiff its size. On my trips to the Keys, there were only a few bonefish I could not get to, and it really was not many. Where the HPX 18 stands out is that it is an extremely capable all-around skiff. It has a soft ride, handles chop well, and the pocket tunnel helps it run silly skinny for a bigger boat. It is one of those boats that gives you a lot of confidence because it can do a little bit of everything well. Compared to something like a Hells Bay or Chittum, the Maverick 18 feels a little more like a crossover technical skiff. It gives up a little on the extreme shallow-water side to gain some versatility and ride quality. Against a Floyd, I would say the Maverick does not feel quite as refined from a construction standpoint. Floyd skiffs have a more overbuilt, custom feel to them, and the fit and finish is probably a notch above. That said, the Maverick 18 is not perfect. It is a fairly wet boat, especially compared to some of the drier-riding skiffs in the category. And while the construction is solid, I would probably rank it below Floyd, and maybe below the top-end feel you get from brands like Chittum and Hells Bay as well. Overall, the Maverick 18 is a really strong option if you want a skiff that runs shallow, rides soft, and is versatile enough to handle a wide range of conditions. It may not be the most technical or the most premium boat in the group, but it is absolutely one of the most capable all-around skiffs in its class.
